Using multiple obj files from context capture in Aecosim v8i ss6

Hello All, I have been using context capture recently and have been following the youtube tutorials for editing meshes in Descartes and then exporting as an obj. The idea is that I can composite several referenced obj files and some dgn architectural models and export to Unity for VR. The issue I am currently having, is that the obj file textures are getting mixed and muddled up when I bring them into the Aecosim. It seems like the textures are texture paths are getting confused when more than one obj reference is being used. I would be very grateful if someone could help with this . or maybe a workflow that might be more suitable.
Thanks,
Conor

LumenRt command Save Current Config as Default

For my Microstation users, I would like the Save Current Config as Default command to save more: Photo Options, zoom, exposure, weather, clouds, wind. Something like a .lrt seed file. All of our building interiors need the exact same settings that we must set over and over.

Vissim Export to LumenRT with Microstation

I have a VISSIM ani.txt file I am trying to export with a 3D Microstation SS4 model to LumenRT Connect Edition. I have confirmed that the coordinates match between the DGN and the VISSIM txt file. When I export to LumenRT, there are no vehicles and no evidence the export was successful. The Microstation model comes in as expected, but no vehicles are displayed. I have looked around the environment to see if vehicles are displaying elsewhere and they are not.

I can create traffic animations within Lumen and vehicles display as expected.

I do not know python but wonder if the VISSIM2Lumen script is potentially outdated for the conversion to Connect edition?

Thank you,

David

Bentley/LumenRT Laundry List of Issues V2

This was a royal pain.

Received practically no assistance from Bentley, Eon, or PTV's end. Exact workflow for incorporating animation created in Vissim for a complex model created in Bentley's PowerCivil was unknown even amongst "advisors" (no set route). "Advisors" argued incorrect details on their packages example being that no additional module is required in license to export an *.ani.txt in PTV Vissim, evident that this was incorrect. True this is not Bentley, but it if stated that something works please include such details in the workflow you produce should you advertise integration.

Bentley's applications generally provide the user with the ability to customize the programs to work for them (evident in workspaces and config files), please provide an extract on what LumenRT expects to see in *.xml format to enable some features and customization as needed. Seems this is very much on the hush and no one is particularly interested in helping in this regard, evident on the forum.

In addition to this the following list highlights my annoyances in this experience, and hope this gets addressed at or aids any users looking to explore this topic. Luckily this was a learning experience by a student/hobbyist and held no expected deliverable:

  • No option to have animation “cling” to a created surface like 3DSMax. Had to learn maxscript to use 3DSmax to simultaneously import then export a *.ani.txt file with corrected gradients and elevations so that LumenRT doesn’t show flying objects at a 0 pitch where slope grades are clearly visible. Also to correct the distinction between entity numbers for vehicles and characters to not flicker. Incorporate a method to have traffic cling to a surface, if I raise the terrain in LumenRt the objects raise with it. Once the animation resumes their positions reset. An alternative is through import of *.alg's to ConceptStation and then export of *.inpx to Ptv Vissim, but this is a mess and too long (also geolocation is a mess)

  • Pedestrians aren't included in the "Vissim2LumenRT.py". Had to learn python to add the pedestrian portion to the .py file, Also to add a file type of *.dae (for custom rigged characters) to be used. LumenRT’s rigged animated characters (*.lob) does not support translation from the *.ani.txt file (they are imported as static). Once the *.py file was edited my custom character worked just fine following the animation from Vissim’s *.ani.txt. Problem with this is in analysis of animation is when the character has to stop translation, say to cross the street, rigged animation proceeds.

LumenRT’s *py file only recognises the bear minimal of vehicle object information highlighting:

  1. Position
  2. time frame
  3. rotation
  4. Gradient

The *ani.txt file is more than that. Allow for signalizes, time frame for display of signalizer lights, vehicle indicators and brake lights and colours instead of random selections

  • Allow for soundclips to be attached to vehicles via the *.py or included in a model to be attached, or maybe via meta-coding?
  • Add door section to the py and relevant models so that buses can have people exit buses where doors actually open.
  • Allow for the user to click on a object and assume its view on the scene
  • Fix ghost drivers
  • Water direction
  • Animated grass or better textures. Current grass textures look like a mat that’s been placed in a scene. Nothing close to the 15cm description
  • Crossfalls are ignored in import of vissims traffic, understandable considering the ani.txt file doesn’t include it but if traffic could drape this problem wouldn’t exist.
  • Better climate control (rain, snow)

The compatibility between Vissim, LumenRT and a Bentley's design packages doesn't work as well as made out to be. In order to explore possible workflows for projection of existing and predicted traffic conditions to a detailed design, engaging with the models in real time and improving general technical delivery, I've ended up learning basic python, maxscript, xml to create and edit scripts and config files to allow for a working output, and using excel to the point where crashes are practically the norm. This in addition to various packages in constrained time.

I've been notified that several things are on the roadmap but are not likely to be solved in the near future. I choose not to believe this, and ask that if someone with no previous coding and animation history, experience in one civil/cad application can solve this issue and develop a workflow and understanding on how the packages integrate with each other, why cant the developers. Why is it taking so long and why hasn't this been communicated more effectively.

Working in MicroStation CONNECT Edition I am trying to export my model to LumenRT using the plugin provided. Everything seems to export correctly, all of my levels are displayed in the level manager within Lumen and turned on, but there is no visible corridor in the model, just a brown square that I'm guessing is where my model should be. Anyone else have this problem?

We are trying to use the Camera tool to check the views provided by CCTV cameras along a train station platform in a 3D model. The specific camera we wish to use has a horizontal to vertical aspect ratio of 1:2.  The camera tool has the aspect ratio locked to 2.64 and cannot be changed. Can anyone advise how to unlock the aspect ratio setting?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

DR processors are not shown in Job Monitor

I'm supporting a client setting up DR (V8i SS3  08.11.09.459 - all on Win10 (Dell) systems)

DR works fine, but there are no processors listed in the Job Monitor. Only the Current Jobs data is in the top dialog section.

The bottom section of the Job Monitor doesn't show any information

The 'workers' directory (sub-directory of  'Projects/Renderfarm/jobs/<Job-ID>/' shows all processors (as .xml files) which do contain the current status e.g. what the 'worker' is working on.

How to get the Job Monitor displaying this information ?

modeling a constrained linkage- ustation capability questions

$

This is an inquiry as to the capabilities of MicroStation V8i in regard to modeling dynamic aspects of mechanical linkages.

First of all if I am posting this in the wrong forum (Visualization) and should be posting it in a mechanical design forum please redirect me.

Among my many interests I build small scale steam engines from castings or solid bar stock.  Before cutting any metal I have built them according to the 2D orthographic drawings in MS V8i 3D models using generally Smart Solids.  This allows me to make mistakes or try design modifications without expending the machining time and also saving costly materials.  The precision of ustation is more than suited for modeling exact parts and assemblies.

Yes, I am getting to the point.. soon but I thought the background was useful because I can imagine that many of you while possibly never having modeled steam engines can still intuitively understand the mechanics of it in 3-space.

A while back I did a simple model of my miniature lathe and by making cells of the various moving and fixed parts, managed to constrain them in their linear paths to satisfactorily represent the real life movement.  I remember it took a bit of reading the docs, help from Forum members and experimentation on my part to do that much.

So my question is this: Does MicroStation V8i (right out of the box) have more sophisticated capabilities in modeling dynamic linkages which follow a collection of members in both linear motion and angular motion around a point/pin and update the image when one member is moved?

In the steam engine there is the piston rod modeled by a line which translates linear motion into rotary motion at the axel/flywheel by various means devised historically.  There is also a linear motion of a steam valve which is coordinated with the power train rotation usually with an eccentric cam and follower.  I need to determine exact displacements to modify a design I am working on.  I could draw and connect just the linkages of all the solid shapes or use the cells of the parts I have already created.  I think the linkage diagram would suffice but the solid parts would be more impressive as a picture.

I would estimate there are about 12 elements to "pin" together.  It appears that all members have 2 degrees of freedom because they all consist of a shaft/pin in a bore, none with a ball and socket.  It is safe to say all the linkage members are constrained in parallel X-Z planes.  The shafts/pins are constrained in parallel X-Y planes.  Ultimately the flywheel would need to be put through one 360 deg. revolution in a cycle to encompass the maximum valve and piston displacements.  I need to display and study the entire linkage at key angles of rotation.  If necessary the system could be simplified by splitting it into the power linkage and the valve linkage.

Is Microstation V8i capable of dynamic repositioning of members and subsequent display?  I ask because if this is so, I will invest the time in hitting the docs again.  Also, can anyone direct me to additional resources or direct me to example ".dgn" files or tutorials?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Terrain STM to 3SM to LuemnRT, drpaed imaginary

Hi

It looks it is a very hot topic on this forum - how to get good looking terrain in LumenRT.

Using dcdrape gives very poor results on large models. Splitting mesh and raster to smaller pieces is very time consuming, and we want to avoid that.

STM (scalable terrain model) looks good in LumenRT,providing export is done when you are on a close up. Only portion visible in view is exported.

It looks that problem is solved with 3SM files. However I don't have such files. I only have terrain model that I use in OpenRoads.

I can create STM, Terrain Model, but is there a way to create 3SM file from terrain with draped imaginary. What is a workflow of creating 3SM files out of common survey data (lidar/lans survey points + imaginary/rasters). If there is no way to get 3SM files out of that data, what would be the best approach to have good looking terrain created from survey data in LumenRT.

blurry plant images

Hi everyone,

I have Lumenrt 2015 studio. When I first started using the software in 2015/16 I would get blurry plants from the jpeg images that I imported once rendered using lumenrt.

The guys at e-on software sent me a link to update the problem and it fixed the bug. Only now I have the same problem again except no support from eon software to resolve the issue.

Any ideas? Would be much appreciated

Thanks,

Alex

Hi,

I have try to move my model from microstation connect edition to lumenRT.

At the first time the model move to lumenRT, the scaled of the model and the background and look good. But then after saving the view what been transfer to LumenRT and reopen it again everything messing up already the model becoming very small and dislocated anywhere else.

Please help what did I miss out to do?

Thanks

How to speed up dynamic rotation view?

$

Hi all,

General question: what computer resources are used for dynamic rotation view?

In Wireframe mode the rotation is relatively quick, cannot complain.

But once change the view to "Illustration Model", then any rotation even with very simple model has noticeable slowing. I have to move my mouse very (VERY) slow, to get smooth rotation.

Same things happened with wireframe more with temporary dynamic rotation view within running creating tool, i.e. start smart line, set the start point, then switch to rotate view, and noticeable slowing with rotation happens...

Thanks.

LumenRT format change?

Interesting write-up on LumenRT.

"In the future, Bentley will move away from a desktop-centric workflow and embrace the cloud."

“Right now, LumenRT’s native format uses a baked, DirectX format that’s optimised for viz,” explains David Burdick. “In the future, we’re not going to do that anymore. We’re just going to work natively off an iModel kind of format and enrich the iModel to give it what it needs for LumenRT.”

Hmmm... Sounds like Navigator Web, which is web browser-based?

Hopefully, there will be a hybrid solution so those without fast internet connects can still use LumenRT.
