Problems with fur materials

RPC tools in Microstation CE 15 are still loaded with all kind of bugs so I have tried to use materials with fur feature for shrub & ground cover plantings. Basically they work ok but I wonder is there something wrong in my workspace configuration or what because I have to re-edit the fur materials every singe time I use my 3D-vegetation material palette. My materials will always loose link to the fur material and shrubs will be rendered as blank billboards until I re-link the fur materials in the 'fur'-tab of the material editor. I have created and stored materials for fur billboards in the same material palette and attached them to my shrub planting materials using fur/ tree billboarding.

Furthermore, the logic behind the way  the material palettes are managaged makes absolutely no sense to me. If I adjust some material settings and try to update the material palette after that, only some of the changes will be saved and some will not. This behaviour feels very unlogical. I save local materials which I have edited to the library and then save the palette to a shared server folder where our MS CE workspace and onrganization libraries are located. Next time I open the updated material palette I will notice that specular value of the material stays unchanged but some other values have been updated. Why? Is this related to the custom workspace configuration somehow? Will the material palettes work better it they were stored to local c:\ folder?

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if I could share some of the renders I have done in Vue BUT they contain no Microstation input?

LumenRT - Licensing - the 10 minute rule

I know I'll get shot down for posting on the wrong place, but I'd like to think I'm among friends in this group.

I recently purchased a second workstation with a RTX 6000 card specifically for rendering LumenRT files. My intended workflow is as follows;

  1. WORSTATION A - modeling in Microstation, export to LumenRT. This opens up the LRT file in an instance of LumenRT.
  2. Close the file and copy it to WORKSTATION B (the RTX machine)
  3. Open the file in WORSTATION B for rendering in LumenRT.

In the past, if I did steps 2 and 3 within a 10 minute period I would be issued with a QTL which I cannot afford to pay.

Does this rule still apply?

I'd like a definitive answer so that I can point Bentley to this thread if I fall foul of their licensing laws.

Thanks,

Max

LumenRT, interactive objects.

I am making a model to be exported to LumenRT Live cube. Is it possible to create an interactive object within the live cube, I want a door closed but when clicked on the door can open. Is this possible?

Recording scripts - Rendering Animations

I have created an animation and I want to render it using 'record script' however it is remaining low quality (the same visually as the 3D model space) rather than producing realistically rendered images.

What are the best settings for this output file?

CityEngine Plug-in support

Hi,

Our education institution is using ArcGIS CityEngine 2020, and during the 'Export Models' phase we used to be able to export to LumenRT, however this option no longer appears.  I noticed that during the installation of LumentRT version 16.15.74.04 that CityEngine 2014-2018 is listed, but not 2019 nor 2020.

Is ArcGIS City Engine version 2019 or later supported?

Thanks in advance

Anthony

LumenRT wide angle lens

Hi there,

I have published a live cube, although the model I have has some small constrained spaces, would there be a way to widen the camera lens. In microstation you can set the camera lensa to wide / fisheye etc. Is there a way to do this in lumenRT so the viewer can see more of the model in the view screen?

Hopefully what I am asking makes sense,

Thanks,

Myles.

Could the model layers be turned on or off in lumenRT LiveCube ?

Hi,

About LumenRT:

There are some  design scheme in the same scene, so I want to switch the display of different layers in LumenRT LiveCube?   How to do that?

Now, The LumenRT original file has to be exported to LiveCube many times.

Thanks

Materials Assignment in OBD CE Update 6

Hi Everyone

I could use some assistance unpicking the materials in OBD.  I am finding that an error occurs in files when I assign materials - I get a message "Parameter is not valid" when I open the file.

I can exchange into the file from another one, but I can't open it directly, and the file crashes frequently.  (This occurs when working in the client workspace).  If I open the file in out-the-box OBD, there is no error message, so I suspect the error is related to the pathing of the assigned materials.

The materials are mostly assigned by the dataset, but in some cases I need to assign or attach materials and this is when the problem comes in.  In the materials editor dialog, the palette I require is not automatically loaded but I can load it no problem.  What is odd is that the folder at the top of the tree is not named according to the local dgn file, which is what I would have expected for local materials.  Have I understood this correctly? The materials are in the .pal file and when they are assigned they become local materials...

I have been reading the forum, help files etc. but have not managed to un-pick the problem.  Any reading material would be much appreciated, also with regards the Luxology Preset Materials, which I cannot get my head around.

Thanks

Hello there,

I have a published LumenRT Live cube. It is of a vessel in water. Applying the ocean effect and setting it at the correct height the water also is present inside the model [below decks, in the engine room etc] Is there a way to set the ocean effect to be limiited by the boundary / hull of the vessel? so the water is only present outside the ship?

This MicroStation Special Interest Group visual workshop focuses on the development and implementation of element templates within your workflows. The one-hour agenda is structured with your success in mind and encompasses practical, real-world topics.

As background, an element template is a named collection of properties that are used to define an element when it is placed. Element properties can include the level or color, a text style, settings controlling the display of a terrain model element, and most recently Item Types. When stored in a configured design library (DGNlib), element templates can become an integral part of your CADD standards.

This session is complimentary and open to all Bentley users. One learning unit will be applied to each attendee’s Bentley Transcriptfor self-reporting. To view recordings from previous SIGs, visit check out the on-demand videos or visit theLearning Pathon Bentley’s LEARNserver.

Vue Render Layers

$

Hi Viz team,

Just wondering with the new Vue render engine if we will still be able to push out separate render layers for post processing in photoshop.

I see there is an ambient occlusion option in the render settings but this didn't seem to give me the expected output, so not sure if this is material dependant or not quite yet plugged in on the Beta tech preview.

However, there are some fundamental layers I think need to be rendered out; my personal list being:

  • Ambient Occlusion (infinite & cropped range)
  • Depth
  • Surface ID (or even better Material ID)
  • Colour
  • Alpha (Transparency)
  • Reflections

Can these layers be generated from the Vue engine?
If so, could they be added as post process options in the Relighting section, with controls for order, visibility on/off, recolouring, and blending modes (screen, add, subtract, etc)?

Robert

Hello there,

I have exported a live cube and this runs fine on windows machines locally.

Are there any options to export from LumenRT to run over a webpage, or on mobile devices, Android / IOS etc?

LumenRT - "Scotopic"

In Rendering settings, there's a slider called named "Scotopic".

Online Help has no information about it. What does it do?

Microstation Connect: Is there a way to see all models or sheets in one space and have it update the order as models or sheets are added to a set? Kind of like a sheet index but for the visual graphics.

We have a client that Likes to see all of the sheets next to each other. Other than adding a bunch of references, is there a way to see all of the sheets in one space and have the automatically put themselves in order as sheets are added to a set? We currently add a bunch of references in a separate model and move them manually. It would be very time saving if it was automated.

lumenrt live cube exported file sizes

Hi everyone,

I've recently been making live cubes from Lumenrt. I'm just wondering what sort of file sizes are to be expected from an exported .exe file. My model is relatively small, however fairly complex. A catamaran vessel 26m long 12m wide, most of the 'advertising' videos I've seen of Lumenrt on youtube etc have been of large cityscapes. The dgn has a file size of 120mb. the exported live cube .exe has a file size of 628. Is 628mb a reasonable sized file for an exported live cube .exe file?

Cheers,

Myles.

LumenRT - exported model location shifted

$

My Microstation model has been exporting fine until today. The first screenshot shows the model correctly located - I've placed trees and set up animation paths.

I've made a few changes to the buildings and terrain, but not added anything beyond the extents of the terrain. As you can see in the second screenshot, the model has shifted relative to my trees and animation paths. In OBJECT COORDINATES it shows -609.6m, 1.219km, 755.03m, which presumably means it's shifted by those x,y distances because the original location is 0m,0m,755.03m.

I'm able to manually move the model back to where my trees are by unlocking OBJECT COORDINATES, but can't seem to dial in the 0m, 0m needed to accurately and easily do so. Those numbers are greyed out.

Why did this happen? It was a common problem with earlier versions of LumenRT (remember when we were advised to place four blocks at the outer extremities?). What's the best way to diagnose this? I've tried exporting just some minimal geometry but everything is shifted by that 609, 1.219 distance.

Thanks,

Max
